Overall Philosophy
I work closely with the parents to ensure the student is both learning and enjoying their experience with the piano. Ideally, the student will progress from beginner, to intermediate, to advanced levels over a course of several years. The whole learning experience is geared towards getting the student to develop the ability to read, appreciate, play, and love music.

Levels
Beginner students learn rhythm, melody, and harmony. From the very beginning, students learn classical music, popular songs, christmas songs as well as theory and history behind the piano. Intermediate level students explore more advanced musical forms and genres. Both beginning and intermediate students are exposed to the great masters of western music such as Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin amongst others. Advanced students explore the original unsimplified compositions of the great masters. They have the choice of delving into advanced popular forms of music including Jazz, Blues, Latin, and world music.

Recitals
Recitals are a part of the learning experience. However, they are not always mandatory for the students. Different students respond to pressure differently and some students resist having to perform in public. I can work with parents to chart a course that is tailored to the individual student's needs.
